with a little help from my friends...

and after a lot of patient waiting...
I am the proud owner of an Ecuadorian driver's license. :)

Beth and I spent about 6 hours in the Comisíon de Transporte office downtown yesterday (God bless her), and after a lot of waiting in line to pay, I got hustled through the computerized examination process (the officer just did it for me!! :) ...and they took my picture, printed the license and we were free to leave.

Now it's just a matter of practicing with a stick shift...

(With what car you might ask!?!?)
Yeah, yeah. I don't have a car...but if I did, it'd be a VW bug (an old one). I've already decided that much.

Hi Jana, you you actually have to take a road test? I've been in some Latin countries where you just pay! And they wonder why the crash rate is up! :) Enjoy sharing the road in Equador.

Wow. Only one trip to the "Comision" and you got it. Now that IS a small miracle!
This is my first time reading you blog, but I have enjoyed catching up...even if we ARE living and working in the same city!!! You are a REAL blessing to each and every person who drops in on you Janna. Hope you are finding somewhere and some time to rehydrate alone with Him. Hey. Did you hear that Nikki is coming!!!

Hey, Janna. I remember what it was like to cross a five lane road in Ecuador in 2004...one driver switched lanes intentionally just to see if he could hit me. I don't recommend this approach once you get wheels. Have fun learning the manual shift.

Congrats Janna! Good luck learning to drive a standard. I bought my first car, a VW GTI Golf (which I loved, and it was a standard. I had never driven a standard before and almost burst into tears while trying to learn. It may take just a little time, but you'll get the hang of it. Once you know, you're set!
