i used to swear i'd never have a cat...

... now I just swear.

Well, it's not really that bad. I actually have grown to love this cat, much to my utter amazement. But two weeks ago, i was so frosted I broke my broom in two, but it wasn't really her fault. Let me explain...

Jane was the Horne's cat. Or is the Horne's cat...she just lives with me now. And I have never been an animal person...and much less, a cat person. So since January we've been getting to know one another quite well, and I must say, I've adjusted and so has she, quite resiliently. I know that she likes her daily scratch behind the ears, a little bit of milk at night, the occasional scrap of raw meat, the tuna can to lick clean...and food in her bowl when the sun comes up. (This usually means that she wines until I get up, with the sun. :) A live-in alarm clock. She has also learned what I do NOT like... her claws and her teeth, and she has learned to jump up onto the hammock oh-so-gently now. We have had some great bonding moments together. I'm rather fond of her, and growing quite attached.
Up until about a month ago I was in the habit of leaving the kitchen and bedroom windows open, and when Jane needed to get out (to leave her scent elsewhere) she just slid open the screen on her own and got out. This allowed me the liberty to come and go without worrying about Jane, and she enjoyed the freedom to prance and prowl in the day or night as she pleased.

She's a smart cat.

Unfortuneately, Jane is also a pretty cat.

And it wasn't long before all the macho felions in the neighborhood learned where to find Jane... and where to find her food bowl. Ode to the poor naive cat keeper who always kept her bowl full. :)

So, without drawing you the complete picture, I finally realized the I was feeding not only Jane, but a number of cats from the neighborhood. And it was SO bad, that Jane's friends got so braizen they would try to get in even when I was home!

Well friends, I can maybe handle one cat...but I CANNOT handle more, not their fleas, not their bugs, not their raging hormones, and who knows what else! I am so thankful that Jane is fixed and there is no fear of her bringing me home sweet little kittens. I think if that were to happen I might break more than a broom.

So...

SEE JANE FREE. NOW SEE JANE STUCK.

Needless to say, the unwritten rules have changed and now when she's in, she's in...and when she's out, she's out. Poor Jane.

I think she's still happy though. Sometimes she puts her skirt on at night and out she goes, free to wander without consequences. Other times she cuddles up and sleeps as I do...

...her on her chair. Me in my bed.

I'm sure she misses you, Katie.

Yay, and ode to Jane :) I love that you love her :P ...and I'm happy she is fixed :)

But poor jane... you STRUCK her?? What will Katie think!!?

Stuck, I believe, was the exact spelling. Cats are too sinewy to strike, anyways, nothing hurts them and then they are capable of the most chastising glares. It's not worth the effort.

Oops... pardon me. I couldn't really read until I was like 12, so you'll have to excuse my imperfections in reading and spelling (they are many!) :P But, in my defence, she did mention how she "broke" her broom... I just thought that perhaps Jane took the brunt of that incident :(

Glad I'm wrong!! :D

ha ha. you guys are entertaining. i did not, would not, could not... STRIKE jane. just for the record. I came close to striking the other cat, but at the last second re-considered and slammed the broom down on the concrete floor. thus the broken broom. it never would have broken had hit the cat. me arrepiento.:)

cats and their black magic. they DO have a way of getting you, don't they? even my DAD ended up bewitched by Jane, in his own way.
